TopoSys Introduces Line of LIDAR Sensors; ILMF Issues "Call for Papers"

TopoSys North America has introduced a complete line of LIDAR sensor systems, engineered by TopoSys GmbH, Biberach, Germany, to address the increasing applications for aerial LIDAR, from precise wide-area topographic mapping to high-density corridor mapping.

The TopoSys LIDAR sensor family consists of three systems: The Falcon III, Harrier 56/G3, and Harrier 24.

The Falcon III utilizes a unique, technologically advanced fibre-optic linear array LiDAR sensor with an effective measurement rate of 125kHz and an integrated four-channel (R, G, B, NIR) optical line scanner that can simultaneously acquire high-resolution, multi-spectral imagery plus elevation data. The fiber based system follows electronic distance measurement (EDM) guidelines no other sensor does, resulting in the highest data quality; fast and sensitive echo detection; and outstanding production efficiency.

Harrier 56/G3 represents the leading edge in LIDAR scanning and digital image acquisition. Full-Wave-Form echo digitization, 200 kHz pulse rate Riegl LMSQ560 Laser scanner combined with a calibrated 39M pixel camera makes the sensor a perfect tool for corridor mapping, engineering site development, forestry, natural resource, flood and topographic mapping.

The full waveform digitization feature of the Harrier 56/G3 enables the user to extract the most comprehensive vertical information from the echo signals. The integrated digital camera is designed to generate high quality color and CIR digital imagery, geometrically and radiometrically calibrated. The camera is also designed to operate as a stand alone to serve medium altitude, aerial image projects for mapping or photogrammetric applications.

Harrier 24 is an optimised entry-level system for helicopter-based mapping with the combination of a calibrated 39M pixel camera and a low-cost 10 kHz Laser. The Harrier 24 is ready to use, allowing organizations to easily add LIDAR scanning to their existing business with the dual benefit of providing digital imaging as well as LIDAR for aerial surveys and remote sensing.

All three sensor systems are complemented by TopPIT, the Lidar processing software developed by TopoSys to support hardware specific pre-processing and streamline data for DEM and true ortho-image production. Third-party software can plug into the workflow through standardised interfaces.

“TopoSys enjoys a unique position in its dual role as an established sensor operator within Europe and Lidar system manufacturer,” said Alexander Wiechert , president, TopoSys North America, Inc. “This position provides TopoSys a broad base of expertise that is unmatched by any other vendor. We expect our customers and partners will benefit tremendously from access to TopoSys experience and knowledge - from sensor operation to the production of digital terrain models, digital RGB and CIR images, all the way through to providing consulting services in customer-specific applications. This is supported by an experienced support team and tailored training programs for hardware and software.”

About TopoSys:

TopoSys Topographische Systemdaten GmbH was founded in 1995 as a spin-off of Dornier GmbH, one of the world’s leading air- and spacecraft manufacturers.  Building on its long-standing expertise in the development and production of fibre-optic LiDAR scanners, TopoSys is committed to the manufacturing and worldwide marketing of turnkey LiDAR systems that include three newly developed products: Falcon III, Harrier 56 and Harrier 24.  TopoSys offers a well-balanced family of sensor systems, allowing its customers to deliver all LiDAR applications from precise, wide-area topographic mapping to high-density corridor mapping.

Established Premier Event for the LIDAR Industry - Call for Papers

The organizers of the established premier event for the LIDAR industry, are delighted to announce a Call for Papers.  This focal gathering of industry leaders, pioneers, experts from government, academia and professionals from industries looking to invest in and benefit from LIDAR technology and services will take place in Denver Colorado at the Adam's Mark hotel from February 21 – 22, 2008.

ILMF is supported by the ASPRS, benefits from the addition of an independent technical committee consisting of leading industry figures and is organized by a team of experienced conference organizers with direct experience in the LIDAR market.

To Submit an Abstract

All professionals associated with the growing LIDAR industry are invited to submit an abstract to present a paper at ILMF 2008.  The conference technical committee is seeking papers and work-in-progress reports on all aspects of airborne and bathymetry LIDAR with a particular emphasis on papers that address the key commercial and technical issues facing the industry.  If you would like to submit an abstract, please send your abstracts to info@lidarmap.org.  Abstracts will be reviewed by the ILMF Technical Committee, who will be jointly responsible for developing the conference program.  Click here for the list of Conference Topics.

FREE Exhibition to attend

Alongside this two day conference is an exhibition consisting of the world's leading LIDAR system and component manufacturers, operators and service companies.  The exhibition is free to attend.  For those that are interested in exhibiting please contact  versha.carter@lidarmap.org

Basics of LIDAR workshop series

For those that are new to the LIDAR business, a number of entry-level workshops will be offered on the first day of the conference. Aimed at educating potential new customers and end-users on the applications and benefits of LIDAR technology. Full details will be available October 15, 2007.

Delegate Registration Opens October 15, 2007
Delegates will be able to register online at www.lidarmap.org from October 15 2007 but to reserve your place in advance simply email info@lidarmap.org.

For more info on any aspect of the event simply email info@lidarmap.org or go to www.lidarmap.org.

To stay up to date on the latest in the LIDAR industry add info@spatialreosurces.com and info@lidarcomm.com to your address book or your e-mail's "Safe Senders" list to ensure you will receive the LIDARcomm E-newsletter.

Until next time...Cheers!
